The Rehabilitation Research Center (RRC) provides traumatic brain injury support groups and events to the community. Other agencies also provide these services. A listing of other local support groups can be found in the Traumatic Brain Injury Resource Directory (TBIRD).

RRC Traumatic Brain Injury Support Groups

Mild Brain Injury (MBI) Group:
The MBI Support Group is available to any person who has sustained a mild brain injury or has made a substantial recovery from a TBI. Family members, caregivers, and friends may participate in another group that meets at the same time. The group meets the 2nd and fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Cypress Senior Center, 403 S. Cypress Ave., San Jose, CA. For more information, contact (408) 793-6428.

Very Important Person (VIP) Group:
VIP Group includes outpatients, individuals with traumatic brain injury in the community, friends, families, and caregivers. This group meets the fourth Wednesday of each month in the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center's 2nd Center Day Room on the second floor. For more information, contact (408) 793-6428.

RRC Community Events

TBI Matters:
TBI Matters is a series of community events designed to inform and educate the entire brain injury community (survivors, caregivers, families, professionals). The events are held at Cypress Senior Center, 403 South Cypress Avenue, San Jose, CA. Admission is free. The next Brain Matters event will be on "The California Brain Injury Association". The presentation will be given by Ann Perkins, a Board member of California BIA. The event will take place on Wednesday, June 4 from 5:30-8pm (presentation starts at 6pm) at the Cypress Senior Center Auditorium in San Jose. Please

2007 Disability Awareness Festival (formerly Brain Injury Awareness Games):
It was the Bay Area's favorite brain injury-related event, then we opened it up to all disability groups! Participants took part in a 1 mile awareness walk as well as participatde in other fun-filled games and activities. There was a barbecue lunch put on by local firefighters (Thank you Santa Clara County Firefighter’s Local 1165!). Music was provided by Big Fun. There were prizes, t-shirts, and give-aways. Proceeds will beused to fund local disability-related activities. If we missed you on October 20, we hope to see you next year!
